Frequently Asked Questions
A memory foam mattress topper is one of the easiest ways to upgrade your sleep without buying a whole new mattress. It moulds to the shape of your body, helping to relieve pressure on your hips, shoulders and lower back which is perfect if you tend to wake up with aches and pains.
Yes, your mattress topper should always match the size of your mattress, whether that's single, double, king or super king. A mattress topper that's too small will bunch up, leaving uncomfortable gaps, while one that's too big won't sit properly and could look untidy under your fitted sheet.
Brushed cotton bedding is woven cotton that's been brushed on one or both sides to raise the fibres, giving it a soft, slightly fuzzy texture. This process traps warmth, making brushed cotton bedding a favourite for autumn and winter, when you want your bed to feel extra snug.
A throw blanket is a lightweight, versatile blanket designed to be draped over your bed, sofa or armchair for an extra layer of warmth and style. Throws come in lots of fabrics, from soft fleece and faux fur to cosy knits, and they're perfect for snuggling up on the sofa, adding texture to your bedroom, or simply layering on top of your duvet when the temperature drops.
Our mattress toppers range from around 2.5cm to 8cm. A thinner topper (2.5cm – 4cm) adds a light layer of comfort, while a thicker topper (5cm+) offers a more luxurious feel.
We recommend you replace your duvet every five years. Over time, duvets lose their feel and insulating properties, and they naturally gather dust mites, skin cells and allergens that washing alone can't fully remove. If your duvet feels flat, lumpy or isn't keeping you as warm as it used to, that's a good sign it's time for a new one.
We recommend that your sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers can generally be kept for one to two years with regular washing, as long as they're not showing signs of wear like thinning fabric, bobbling or fading. Pillows themselves should be replaced more often, every one to two years, as they lose their shape and can harbour dust mites and bacteria over time.
Duvets are rated on a warmth scale called "tog", the higher the number, the cosier the duvet. Here are some of the different options:
- 1 - 4.5 tog - Light and breathable, ideal for summer nights
- 4.5 - 7.5 tog - A versatile choice that works well all year round
- 7 - 10.5 tog - Warmer and cosy, great for the cooler months
- 10.5 - 13.5 tog - Snug and warm, perfect for winter or chillier bedrooms
- 15 tog and above - Extra toasty for those who feel the cold
Still not sure which tog is right for you? Take a look at our duvets buying guide for more help finding your perfect night's sleep.
Your duvet size should always match your bed size to make sure you're properly covered; we recommend the following sizes:
- Single – 135 x 200cm
- Double – 200 x 200cm
- King – 225 x 220cm
- Super King – 260 x 220cm
We recommend that you should aim to change your bedsheets once a week. Over the course of a week, sheets pick up sweat, dead skin cells, oils and dust mites, so washing them regularly helps keep your bed fresh and hygienic and can even help you sleep better.
Side sleepers need a firmer, thicker pillow that keeps the neck and spine aligned by filling the gap between the ear and shoulder. A medium-to-firm pillow with good loft, such as memory foam or a supportive synthetic fill, works well, as it won't flatten out overnight and lose its support. Memory foam pillows are especially popular with side sleepers, as they contour to the shape of the head and neck while keeping everything properly aligned. We also recommend avoiding pillows that are too soft or flat, as these can leave your neck unsupported and lead to stiffness in the morning.
The lowest tog rating you'll typically find is around 1 tog, sometimes referred to as a "summer duvet." These ultra-lightweight duvets are designed to keep you comfortable on warm nights. If a 1 tog duvet feels too light, a 4.5 tog is another popular lightweight option that still offers a little more warmth for cooler summer evenings.
