Preparation Guidelines

Ensure surfaces to be painted are clean, dry and free from grease, dust flaking material or other contamination. Repair any cracks and defects. Glossy or sealed surfaces should be lightly sanded prior to application. Avoid the inhalation of dust – wear a suitable dust mask when dry sanding. If applying to base plaster or a highly porous surface, apply a mist coat of Dunelm Eggshell, reduced 10% with water. If applying to bare wood or metal, ensure the surface is suitably primed before applying the paint. Lightly sand the surface before applying the final coat. Surface priming is generally recommended where there is doubt about the surface to be painted. *If applying to radiators, ensure the radiator is switched off for at least 24 hours, before and after application. Not suitable for oil-filled radiators.

Storage Guidelines

The product is water-based and so must be protected from frost and extreme temperatures. To avoid the risk of spillage, always store and transport in a secure and upright position. Use within 12 months of purchase.

Peel and Stick Paint Swatch

If you're still unsure about your colour choice, our peel and stick swatches will make choosing the right colour for your room easy, simply peel off the backing and apply to your wall of choice. The low-tack adhesive backing is designed for peeling off and sticking somewhere new, so you can move it around the room to see how it looks in all areas and next to different furnishings. We make our samples using real paint so you can trust that the colours you see on them are exactly the results you'll get from the tin. Our swatches are supplied in a standard A5 size.

The Matt Emulsion Atkins Blue Paint is part of the British Shorelines Collection. Extraordinary treasures can be found along the British coastline. A truly special environment, the shoreline is simply brimming with life both above and below the waves, but with the tide washing twice daily over the shore, it can be an unforgiving place to live. The creatures that reside here must adapt to an ever-changing environment - some have evolved hard outer shells to protect themselves, others such as starfish have developed hundreds of ‘tube feet’ to grip on tightly. From out of reach coastal cliffs and rocky islets teeming with seabirds to the rich and diverse underwater kelp forests that support a variety of marine species, there is incredible wildlife wherever you turn. Through our collection with the Natural History Museum, we want to celebrate the diversity of the UK’s incredible shorelines and highlight some of the threats impacting them and the species that reside there from rising ocean temperatures to acidity levels.
