What is a cabin bed?

A cabin bed is a raised single bed designed for children’s bedrooms, with the elevated frame creating usable space beneath for storage or functional features. Lower level cabin beds sit closer to the ground and typically feature built-in drawers and shelves underneath, making them a good choice for younger children moving up from a toddler bed. Mid-sleeper cabin beds sit at a greater height, creating more clearance beneath for other features like desks and wardrobes, ideal for older kids who need dedicated space for homework. Most cabin beds feature integrated safety rails to keep your child secure while they sleep and are designed to make the most of the space in your child’s bedroom without using any additional floorspace.

Who are cabin beds for?

Cabin beds are suitable for children around the age of 6 and upwards, once they are confident climbing up and down independently. The lower cabin beds are well suited to the younger age ranges, while mid sleeper and high sleeper beds are more appropriate for the higher ages of 8 years and up. For older children, cabin beds with integrated desks or workspaces are a particularly practical choice to combine a study area into the footprint of the bed. As all children develop at different rates, choose a height you and your child feel confident and safe with.

For safe use, these beds are typically designed to hold a single sleeper. Never allow more than one child on an elevated bed at a time. Also, if installing in a room with a ceiling fan, ensure there is a minimum of 2 metres clearance above the mattress surface.
