Delivering Joy
...by making a difference to someone in your local community
For the third Christmas in a row, we’ll be Delivering Joy to people in our local communities who might otherwise go without. Our stores are partnering with local schools, care homes and refuges and with your help, we’re hoping to spread some festive cheer to more people than ever. Read on to see how you can get involved…
How it works
Help yourself to a tag from the Delivering Joy tree in your local store. Each one offers an insight into who’s going to be receiving your gift and as they’re all local residents, you’ll be bringing joy to someone nearby. Once you’ve sorted their present, pop it in an unsealed gift bag and take it back into the store by Sunday 11th December. We’ll deliver the gifts in the run-up to Christmas.
Shop at Dunelm.com and you’ll be able to make a cash donation to one of our charity partners when you go through our online checkout. Simply choose a charity, select how much you want to donate and we’ll do the rest.
Two ways to spread some sparkle
Which decs can you donate?
We’re open to any styles but we’d like to spread joy, not DIY jobs, so please check donations and swappables are in ready-to-enjoy condition. And to keep the merriment safe, no electrical items please.
*Any leftover decorations will be donated to local causes.
Have a question about donating gifts?
Not at all. As long as the content of the gift bag matches the info on the tag, and will bring joy to the person on the tag, you can fill it with anything, from anywhere… well, within reason. They also need to be safe and in date if it’s anything perishable.
Feel free to get creative! The only thing we can’t accept (for health and safety reasons) is anything perishable like food and drink.
If you’re a part of one of our Knit & Stitch groups, you’ll be getting some special requests that we hope you’ll love making together before donating as gifts.
Yes, just find your local store’s Community Group on Facebook and post a message on the page. A member of the team will get back to you with the tag information of a local resident. Bear in mind you’ll need to bring the gift to the store by 11th December.
Alternatively, if you’re shopping at Dunelm.com there’s an option to make a cash donation to a choice of charities, and Deliver Joy by supporting the important work they do all year round.
No, this isn’t a money-making venture. This is a joy-delivering venture! We just want to support our communities and brighten the days of some of the most vulnerable members of society. We’ll also be donating gifts to be delivered alongside yours.
If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for on this page, post a message on your local Community Group or ask a colleague in-store. Either way they’ll be happy to help!
We’re replenishing tags as quickly as we can. For more information, please head to your local Dunelm Community Facebook group for the latest updates, or speak to a colleague if you happen to be going to a store.
Each store has committed to supporting specific local schools, care homes and refuge partners, however, where stores are able to support additional organisations, they are doing so. It’s always worth asking, so please contact the management team at your local store to see if they’re able to help.
Yes of course! If you are able to give more than one gift, we and the recipients will be so thankful. All we ask is that you only take tags that you’ll definitely be able to buy a gift for, as we don’t want to disappoint anyone.
Unfortunately not. We need all gifts to be back at our stores for Sunday 11th December so that we have time to deliver each one to our local schools, care homes and refuges. It’s really important that we meet that deadline to help us Deliver Joy!
We’re keeping a detailed log at each stores to track of any tags taken and gifts received. As each tag represents a real person, we’re encouraging people to only takes tag if they can 100% donate a gift for. If there are any instances of gifts re not being returned to stores, we will provide one ourselves to make sure everyone receives a little bit of joy this Christmas.
The information on the tags is kept to a minimum to protect identities and ensure we’re GDPR compliant (these are strict data protection rules). We take safeguarding very seriously, and we have asked that tags only include a name (first or last), gender, age range and interests. This should give enough of a hint to gift-buyers, without sharing anything extra. If you do happen to see a tag with more information than is necessary, please let us know so we can fix it immediately.
Have a question about donating decorations?
Yes, as long as they’re in good condition, and don’t need electricity to work. It doesn’t matter if it’s a spare tree, garland, sparkling tinsel or a set of vintage baubles. If it’s ready to use, we’re happy to take it and deliver some joy!
No, sorry, We can’t accept any electrical items, so please hold onto your twinkling lights for now. Maybe a friend or neighbour would like them?
All donation-ready decorations need to be in-store by Sunday 11th December so we have time to deliver them to local facilities and they can get plenty of use out of them.
