Natural History Museum x Dunelm

Did you know that more people have walked on the moon than have been to the deepest part of the ocean? The midnight zone is near the very bottom of the sea. It is called this because no light can penetrate down there. Darkness, crushing pressure and low temperatures are the norm. But even in these extreme conditions, there is life. Animals that live in the deep sea have evolved enhanced senses that help them to find food, search for mates and avoid predators. From the Black seadevil and Tripod fish to the Dumbo octopus and Vampire squid, these incredible creatures have made this unforgiving habitat their home. Very little is known about the behaviour of these species because it is so difficult to study them in their natural environment but with continued exploration of the deep ocean, scientists hope to learn more about these fascinating creatures.
