Footstools and Pouffes
Do you like to put your feet up when you’re relaxing in your comfy armchair or sofa? Why not do it properly with a beautiful footstool or pouffe from Dunelm? We stock a brilliant range of these handy little pieces of furniture, many of which are designed as part of a sofa or armchair set, so you know it’s going to look great when you move it in.
What’s the difference between a footstool and a pouffe? The main difference is that traditionally, a footstool has three or four feet, whereas a pouffe is more of a cylindrical, spherical or box shape that sits straight on the floor. Both are cushioned and covered, so they will always look the part, but a pouffe is a little less formal. Some footstools come without legs, but it’s just a matter of naming them that way.
A great thing about a footstool is that while the clue is in the name – it’s to put your feet on – it can also make a perfectly good seat, especially useful when you have guests round. Because it’s upholstered and cushioned, it’s a really comfortable place to sit.
Another useful feature of many of our footstools is that they also double up as a bit of storage space. Because of their shape, they’re just perfect to use as somewhere to help your decluttering effort. Just lift the seat, store away and you’re done. Just be careful not to overfill them if you like to move them around a lot – they’re deceptively voluminous and can get quite heavy.
We mentioned above how footstools and pouffes are often designed to complement specific sofas and chairs, but you really don’t have to. Sometimes, a splash of colour or contrast is great, and a footstool is a fine opportunity to introduce it. Dark floors, whether they’re carpeted, laminated or down to the varnished and stained floorboards, are set off particularly well by a bright, vivid pouffe. Take a look at our Isla pouffes, for example, covered in vibrant teal, citrus or blush fabric – you can already see how spectacular they would look against a dark brown floor.
With such a magnificent range of fabrics to choose from, you’re going to be delighted whether it’s contrast or consistency you’re going for. From the traditional to the modern, whether standing out or blending in, there’s a footstool or pouffe that will look great in front of your favourite place to sit.
