There’s no chair quite as compact and chic as a well-proportioned tub chair. They might sacrifice some of the creature comforts of an armchair, like the high back, but they remain comfortable and attractive pieces of furniture. And because they are so small and compact, they fit in any room without causing a roadblock – which is probably why they’re the natural choice for cafes and bars the world over.
Another benefit of the compact proportions of a tub chair is that they can be covered in some pretty loud fabric, but they always look like an interesting piece of furniture, never a distraction. We’ve thrown ourselves into that ethos with some of our tubs, bedecked in spots, stripes and illustrations, but easily managing to retain their sense of good taste and refinement.
Of course, it’s the leather tub chair that many of us will have experienced hundreds of times in the bars and cafes we frequent. You sink in and lean back, safe in the knowledge that you’re in a solid piece of furniture. That curved back supports you all the way, and the armrests are just perfect for holding a drink while you chat or read. Our leather is faux or bonded, so it comes with the great looks, sensual texture and reassuring durability of leather, but at a much more affordable price. Suitable for any room in the house, tub chairs look good in living areas, or equally make great bedroom furniture as bedroom chairs.
None of the above glamorous enough for you? OK, you made us do this – you can now get yourself a supreme tub chair covered in the most indulgent velvet you can imagine. How would you like to settle down in one of these for half an hour in the company of a steaming cup and a good friend?
Another cafe bar standard is the 2 seater tub. A chair for sharing good times and great drinks, it’s the stretched limo version of the classic tub chair, equally comfortable but twice the size. Leather gives it the cafe look, but in fabric, it suddenly takes on much more homely connotations – you can easily imagine it in a conservatory or next to a bay window, always open for guests to enjoy.
For the final piece of the jigsaw, how about a matching footstool so you can put your feet up while you chill? It can also be used as a pouffe, and satisfyingly, when it’s not in use it fits snugly in the seat of the tub chair so you can free up more of your floor. It’s a classic.
